When drug dealers set up shop in local communities, it quickly causes misery for all those around them.
Our neighbourhood officers are essential in tackling these crimes, by building local links and engaging with those affected to prevent further victims and offer support.
PC Scott Bennett said: “We help to build the intel picture, as we’re in the area and can see who’s coming and going from particular houses – and we often recognise the visitors. We can then use this for proactive work to tackle these issues, like warrants.”
PCSO Elizabeth Mosler added: “Drug use sadly tends to lead to other crime, so we can get to know those involved and work to build a relationship with those that do need help and reduce the effect of these crimes.”
In this video, PC Bennett and PCSO Mosler from Heanor neighbourhood team explain how in previous roles covering larger areas they didn't have the time to build intelligence and information on local activities, whereas local teams can make all the difference in cracking down on drug crime in Derbyshire communities.
