As part of Anti-social Behaviour Awareness Week, we’re highlighting the people throughout Derbyshire who are making a positive difference in their communities in tackling ASB.
Rebecca Patrick, managing director at Infinite Wellbeing, was put forward by Heanor Safer Neighbourhood Team, for the work her and the team have put into creating a community hub in the town.
Rebecca said, “We’re really passionate about providing a local safe space for anybody of any age, and a place to come together regardless of their background or their beliefs.
“It would be really nice to create an environment to see a whole community coming together.”
The community centre has a range of facilities including a café and role play centre and will host sessions for young people such as cookery classes, photography sessions and opportunities to learn how to knit and crochet, as requested by the community.
There are also plans to offer young people the chance to volunteer, and host activities for all ages such as bingo nights.
Rebecca added: “I think there’s quite a divide in communities, and young people are all tarred with the same brush. Having a space for young people to go to is important and I would also love to offer training and voluntary experience, to give them some qualifications and transferable skills that they can use going forwards.
“I think many teenagers and young people feel like they’re not very much liked in town, and I’d love to do some intergenerational activities to build bridges between the different generations.”
PCSO Mosler said: “We’re proud to be working with Rebecca and Cheryl as part of Infinite Wellbeing, they’re wanting to improve the community and have given a lot of personal time, effort, and finances to put this together.
“A lot of manpower has gone into ensuring that the facilities they will provide are for all the people in the community, taking into account lots of different ages, backgrounds and vulnerabilities, and it will be fantastic for Heanor.”
