Over 100 residents, community leaders, and local service representatives gathered in Abbey for a community meeting aimed at celebrating successes, raise awareness of local support groups, and identify further support needs.
During the two-hour event, it was discussed how the community can collaborate to address issues and support the local groups making a positive impact.
Organised in partnership between Derbyshire Constabulary and the engagement charity Redeeming Our Communities, the meeting provided valuable insights about the cares and concerns of the community, which will be compiled into a report to guide future actions.
To enhance community engagement and implement recommendations from the community meeting, a dedicated part-time administrator is also being recruited to the project.
This role, funded by Foundation Derbyshire’s Tom Carey Fund, will coordinate efforts based on the report’s findings over the next year.
Inspector Leanne Craig said: “Research consistently shows that close knit communities are safer, happier, and more resilient. As the saying goes, ‘We’re better together.’
“This event saw lots of positive conversations, as well as suggestions and ideas which will be included in the report and used in our response going forward."
Debra Green, Executive Director of Redeeming Our Communities, said: “I am looking forward to seeing the ideas suggested on the evening become a reality and more joined up work going forward.”
Abbey was selected as the area for this event following analysis of crime victim satisfaction, community engagement with the police and other data.
