As you may have seen, last week our police cadets enjoyed their summer residential.
Attending the residential allowed the cadets to grow in confidence and experience things they wouldn’t usually do. But to make things like this possible, we rely heavily on our cadet leaders.
We watch our leaders regularly push themselves past their own comfort zones. They lead by example, reassuring the cadets and increasing their own, and the cadets, confidence.
Some of our cadet leaders work within Derbyshire Constabulary as police staff or as police officers and volunteer their evenings to work with the cadets. But many of our leaders have completely different day jobs with no previous experience in policing and often no experience as a leader.
It’s having this variety of role models which helps our cadets grow and learn. Our leaders are more than just youth workers, they journey with our cadets and gain new skills and experiences themselves.
The main thing we look for when recruiting new cadet leaders is a sense of adventure, a passion for working with the younger generation and a willingness to get stuck in!
If you’d like to get stuck in and think that a residential like last week is the kind of adventure you enjoy, apply to be a cadet leader on our website at Cadet Leader (Volunteer) :: Derbyshire Constabulary Jobs.
