As our recruitment window for Special Constables comes to a close, we’re looking at another crucial member of our Special Constabulary who has gained a wide range of experiences since joining.
Eleanor is a relatively new Special Constable who has been helping on our streets for the past six months.
Eleanor said, “I joined the Specials as I wanted to know what it would be like working in such a crucial role alongside the public. I wanted to experience the day-to-day life as a police officer and reaffirm that this could be my future career. I can say it is and more.
“Specials training was a big commitment but persevering over 18 weeks of training was so rewarding for the end goal of becoming an officer who can potentially make a difference.
“I enjoy many aspects of the role but the excitement of having something different every shift accompanied by the great colleagues and the fast pace of the job is something incomparable. Since becoming a Special Constable in June 2022, the role has already allowed me to make strong work connections and has enhanced my inter-personal skills and confidence.
“I usually volunteer for a range of different shifts. I enjoy working night shifts the most as they are busy, and they are a great way to learn and engage with the public. The challenges of not knowing what you could face are both exciting and rewarding.
“I would say to someone who is thinking of volunteering, to just go for it. Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people in the forms of colleagues and members of the public. It is a rewarding job opportunity which is involved in actively helping people and working on the front line. Becoming a Special Constable is diverse and can offer amazing opportunities to anybody who chooses to become involved.”
Recruitment for our Special Constabulary closes on Wednesday 22 February, it’s not too late to start your policing career by applying on our website at Special Constable (DP22) :: Derbyshire Constabulary Jobs.
