It has been a fantastic summer of sport and this is set to continue as once again the start of the season for league football has arrived.
Whilst the Euros and the Olympics have kept us all entertained, we know Spireites and Rams fans across the county will be eager to be back supporting their teams.
Both teams are playing this evening (8pm, Friday 9 August 2024). Chesterfield are at home, taking on Swindon Town, whilst Derby travel to Ewood Park to play Blackburn Rovers.
Superintendent Jim Thompson said: “It’s fantastic to have league football back and, like the fans, we’re really backing our local teams.
“Both the Chesterfield and Derby first teams have gone up a league this season, and from a Derbyshire perspective it’s amazing to see this success. I’m sure this is set to make it an exciting season for supporters, too, who we’re looking forward to welcoming back.
"Whilst we know the games can be competitive and fans can get passionate about the results, we absolutely trust they will represent us well.”
If you're heading to one of these games, remember the following:
Games may get heated, but you don't have to. If tensions rise, walk away and encourage your friends to as well. Scores are settled on the pitch, not in the stands.
If you're travelling, remember to plan your journey and allow more time as it is likely to be busy around the stadiums. Ensure your vehicle is safe for the journey and know where you're going to park before you set off.
If you're planning to have a drink or two during or after the match, make sure you've assigned a designated driver who will stay sober.

Dedicated Football Officer PC Adam Collins from Derbyshire Constabulary said: "As ever, we're pleased to be welcoming back the start of the football season and I know fans will be happy to see their teams on the pitch again, too.
"We know fans are dedicated and will be travelling to show their support, both to Chesterfield and to Blackburn to see the Rams.
“We assess all matches to make sure we’re providing the right support and resources. We very much expect the games to run smoothly – however, as per usual, there will be a number of police operation football officers and football security on hand at the grounds. They are there to speak to you, to ensure you have a great match day experience, and to help if you have any concerns.
"If you need to report anything to us, please speak to officers on the ground or call 101.
“Please also be mindful about rumours or disinformation that may circulate. Any updates will be posted by ourselves or our partners, so please ensure you look to these official sources to keep informed – and enjoy the match!”
