October is Black History Month, and for us in Derbyshire it’s a chance to celebrate the value and contribution of our Black communities.
Throughout the month, we are supporting activities and sharing messages that focus on Black History.
We’re proud to support Black History Month and the theme for 2024 of Reclaiming Narratives, celebrating the voices and stories that shape Black history and culture. Throughout this month, we’ll be connecting with our Black communities, and our own staff, to share and learn about their lived experiences.
A series of events have been planned throughout October both in Derbyshire Constabulary and by our partners to celebrate Black History Month.

Our force commitment to our Black and diverse communities
Derbyshire has a diverse community, and we want to ensure that all our communities feel safe and have trust and confidence in the way we police them.
Police Race Action Plan
We are delivering a Police Race Action Plan, the purpose of which is to create a police service which is anti-racist and trusted by Black people.
The plan sets out changes that will improve outcomes for Black people who work with or interact with the police.
The plan aims to address the disparities affecting Black people and lower levels of trust and confidence in the police among some Black people.
This plan is focussed on Black people, but it will make us more inclusive and fairer to all our diverse communities.
You can find out more about the Police Race Action Plan by visiting our website here, Our Race Action Plan | Derbyshire Constabulary.
Representative Workforce
Derbyshire Constabulary has over 4,000 officers, staff and volunteers. We value the different experiences, perspectives, and talents of our diverse workforce. It is only by having a diverse workforce that we can be effective in preventing and reducing crime, and supporting victims in Derbyshire, a diverse and vibrant county with residents of different ethnicities, backgrounds, and cultures.
We aim to have a diverse workforce that is representative of the communities that we serve. We continue to work within communities and utilise positive action to support this aim. The force has a Positive action team of officers and staff that work within our communities to attract, recruit and support members of our community in the routes into our policing family.
You can find out more information about positive action and career opportunities here, Positive action initiatives :: Derbyshire Constabulary Jobs.
