This site is a beta, which means it's a work in progress and we'll be adding more to it over the next few weeks. Your feedback helps us make things better, so please let us know what you think.
We have joined in partnership with SignVideo, a service that will allow Deaf or Hard of Hearing people who use British Sign Language (BSL) to contact us in non-emergencies.
This new service is for 101 enquiries which aren’t emergencies. In an emergency, we still have in place a text service and BSL999, which work in a similar way but is exclusively for emergencies.
This new service will offer more options for BSL users to contact us to ask for updates on enquiries and report non-urgent crimes, which can be quicker and easier for them to use.
You can access BSL101 by downloading the SignVideo app or through our website here: Contact us: deaf community | Derbyshire Constabulary
The service works by connecting the BSL user to an interpreter who relays the conversation from BSL to English to the call handler in our control room. The call handler can then respond to the interpreter who can sign back to the BSL user.
Alongside this service, our partnership with SignVideo now means that our officers have access to interpreters when out in the community. Through this new service they can also contact BSL interpreters who can relay a conversation in BSL to members of the public, at any time, on any day.
We hope this new partnership will help Deaf or Hard of Hearing members of our community be able to contact us easier and quicker.
