A murder investigation has been launched after a 22-year-old man died following a double stabbing in Derby city centre.
Josh Carter was one of two victims involved in an incident in Cheapside in the early hours of Saturday 14 August.
He was pronounced dead at 4pm on Monday (16 August) at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
Our thoughts are with his family, who are being supported by specialist officers, at this most difficult of times and ask that their privacy is respected.
A second victim, a boy aged 17, remains in hospital with life-changing injuries.
A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court in the early afternoon on Monday charged with attempted murder, GBH and possession of a knife in public. He was remanded to prison.
Detective Chief Inspector Sally Blaiklock, who is leading the team investigating the incident, said: “Firstly I want to express my condolences on behalf of the force to the family and friends of Josh.
“The incident that took place over the weekend has understandably shocked the community and I would urge anyone with information to come forward and help the officers investigating the death of Josh, along with the serious injuries suffered by the other victim.
“From footage that has already been reviewed by the team, it is clear a number of people were using their phones to record both the incident, and the moments leading up to it.
“I would ask that anyone with footage that can assist in our enquiries pass it to the force, which you can do in confidence.
“I would also urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or has information that may be able to assist, to come forward.”
Anyone with footage or information should contact the force using any of the below methods, including reference 21*456546:
