Man arrested after alleged threats with knife in Derby city centre

A man has been arrested after a caller reported a teenager threatening another man with a knife in Derby city centre today (6 June).
Firearms officers were deployed and arrested an 18-year-old man in East Street at 2.36pm.
The man, who is from Derby, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in public and remains in custody.
Superintendent Steve Pont said: "Members of the public may have seen firearms officers in Derby earlier today.
"Following reports of a man threatening people with a knife, armed response officers were deployed to the scene.
"An 18-year-old was safely detained, and a knife recovered.
"Incidents such as this are thankfully rare but understandably concerning, however, officers were on the scene extremely quickly and resolved the incident safely.
“I would like to pass my personal thanks to the member of the public who called in to inform us of the incident and I would urge anyone who is concerned that someone may be carrying a weapon of any type to contact the force in confidence at any time.”
