A Derby drug dealer has been jailed after a police chase through Derby.
Kamran Bhatti was spotted driving a van in Rowditch Place by officers from the SALCU road crime team at 3.20pm on 12 January.
The 40-year-old ran from the Peugeot Bipper which had come to a dead end before managing to escape down a 15ft drop. However, officers managed to grab the carrier bag bag he was holding which contained a large quantity of both heroin and cocaine.
Two weeks later Bhatti, of Prime Parkway, Derby, handed himself in to police and was charged on Tuesday 25 January with possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin and driving without insurance.
Last Wednesday (23 February) after pleading guilty to the offences, he was jailed for five years and seven months at Derby Crown Court.
Detective Sergeant Matt Russell, from the specialist Organised Crime Group team, said: “Kamran Bhatti has been a significant player in the drug supply into Derby and his jailing is a real positive step for our communities.
“As a force we will relentlessly pursue those who deal drugs in our city and county – and I hope that this sentence serves as a clear message that Derby is no easy place to conduct this type of criminality.
“I would also urge anyone with any information about drug dealing in their area to come forward to the force, in confidence, at any time. Any intelligence helps build a picture of the activities of these groups and will help ensure they are brought to justice.
Anyone with any information about drug dealing, or other organised criminal activity, can contact the force using any of the below methods:
