A man from Swadlincote has been jailed after he broke into a property and stole medals belonging to the victim’s father.
Kynan Shepherd, of Edward Street, Hartshorne plotted the burglary on 4 November last year after realising that the occupant would be out and had left a gold chain in his room.
Shepherd broke into the address in Midland Road, Swadlincote in the early hours of that morning and stole the high value gold chain and the medals.
Shepherd was arrested on 4 December 2021 at an address in Measham where he assaulted a police officer.
He was charged and remanded to appear at court and went on to admit burglary, assaulting an emergency worker, and being in breach of a suspended sentence which had only been imposed in October 2021 following several shop thefts.
The 35-year-old was jailed for three and a half years by a judge at Derby Crown Court on 11 November.
