Officers were called to reports of an alleged drink driver in Alvaston just before 2pm on Friday 8 September.
The car, a black Vauxhall Zafira, was spotted by officers in Wyndham Street and, after a short pursuit along Harvey Road and Osmaston Park Road the Vauxhall collided with a blue Volkswagen Touran.
The driver and passenger of the Volkswagen, a woman in her 40s and a boy in his mid-teens, were taken to hospital. The driver remains in hospital with serious injuries; however, they are not believed to be life-threatening. The passenger is recovering at home.
The driver of the Vauxhall was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with the following alleged offences:
Richard Nixon, 44, of Baseball Drive, Derby, was remanded to police custody and appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today (11 September) where he was further remanded to prison.
Due to the circumstances of the collision the Independent Office for Police Conduct was notified on Friday and a formal referral has been made today.
