We are appealing for information following reports that a number of benches at the War Memorial Village in Shelton Lock have been damaged.
The benches, which are described as being on a small parade square in what is known as Memorial Square, have been scratched with graffiti sometime between Saturday 1 June and Friday 14 June.
Officers are carrying out enquiries and would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the damage or have any information about the damage.
It is estimated that it will cost more than £3,000 to repair or replace the benches, which are described as being of historical significance and importance to the local community.
