Officers from our Chaddesden and Spondon Safer Neighbourhood Teams have joined forces with Derby Homes to offer free anti-tamper number plate screws to motorists in the area.
The event is being held at the Asda store, Nottingham Road, Spondon on Monday, April 15.
The move follows a spate of number plate thefts in the area.
Sergeant Jonny Luxton, who is in charge of the teams, said: “The theft of number plates has always been something we see from time to time, however we have noticed it increase in the area over the last few weeks.
“The reason for this type of crime is not clear, however, it can be linked with other crimes where false plates are used on vehicles.
“We are grateful to the staff from Derby Homes who will be fitting the screws that make it much harder for the plates to be removed.”
Officers will be in the supermarket car park between 11am and 2pm although if you are not able to make that time and date contact the team and they will be able to supply you with a set of the screws.
