Officers from our Chaddesden Safer Neighbourhood Team are gearing up to join all the fun of the ‘Big 1’ this weekend.
The annual summer family fun day is being held on Sunday, June 2 on Chaddesden Park, between 11am and 5pm.
So as well as the usual stalls, food arena, live entertainment and fun fair, the policing team will be there to speak to residents, discuss how they police the area and hand out crime prevention advice. They will have uniform for the children to try on and an armed response unit to show how they police the more serious incidents in the county.
One of the team, PC Mark Atterbury, is even taking part in the annual wrestling ‘Rumble Match’. The competition, organised by the Aspire Wrestling Alliance, will have a wrestler representing each of the 12 primary schools of the area.
Mark explained: “We have been working closely with Aspire during the year to provide themed sessions in the schools which range from criminal responsibility through to sessions which extol the virtues and value of being part of a community.
“The wrestling completion is a celebration of this and the children have all been presented with coloured t-shirts to represent their school.”
Rob Shade, Managing Director & Founder of ASPIRE Wrestling Alliance, said: “We work closely with the local policing team, Derby City Council, Derby Homes and other Derby based organisations and have received funding from BBC Children In Need and Local Giving.
“The results shall best be measured years down the line where it is hoped that the young people now involved will have understood the lessons delivered during the project and the implications of criminal behaviour along with the rewards of positive community centred behaviour.'
So come along, meet the team, learn about the policing of Chaddesden and support PC Atterbury as he wrestles his way to victory, or not!
