Officers from our Abbey Safer Neighbourhood Team have arrested a suspected illegal immigrant after a drug search on a Derby house.
The search was carried out at a house on Freehold Street in the Stockbrook area of the city, last week on Monday, May 20.
Officers found 151 cannabis plants being grown in the 2-bedroomed terrace house.
Arrested at the address was suspected illegal immigrant, 27-year-old Benard Krrashi who is thought to be Albanian. He was charged with the production of a Class B drug- cannabis and appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court the next day, Tuesday May 21, where he was remanded in to custody.
Mr Krrashi’s immigration status has been referred to the Immigration services.
Sergeant Emily Atkinson, who is in charge of the local policing team, said: “We were pleased to receive the concerns of the local community about the suspicious activity at this address and acted on it as soon as we could.
“This type of activity is disruptive to the neighbourhood and often leads to other crime and anti-social behaviour and so this demonstrates the good results we can achieve when we have communities being vigilant and reporting concerns to us.”
