Some of our Long Eaton officers will be joining partners from other emergency services this evening in a charity fun run for those affected by the Australian bush fires.
The event being held this evening (Thursday, 6 February) at 6pm on West Park, Long Eaton will raise funds for WIRES the Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation and the Australian Red Cross.
Insp Ed Browne, who is in charge of policing in Erewash, explains: “We were approached by the organisers of the event, who are staff from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue, to see if our officers and staff would like to take part and we were only too happy to support them.
“We will have a number of people running and although some will do so in uniform, all those taking part are doing so in their own time, so the policing of Erewash will not be affected.”
Staff and officers from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue and East Midlands Ambulance Service will also be taking part in the run.
