Emergency services remain on Eden Street, Alvaston following a possible gas explosion that took place on Tuesday 10 June at around 7.24 pm.
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service has now handed the scene over to Derbyshire Constabulary who will be maintaining a cordon around the impacted property and at the road closure this evening and until further notice.
Eden Street remains closed, however access for residents only will be given at the cordon.
Demolition and Investigation
Demolition work at the scene is due to begin on Friday 13 June.
Due to the complexities of the demolition alongside the investigation into the cause of the explosion, it is expected to take several days.
Work is scheduled to take place between 9am and 4.30pm with the possibility that this may need to be extended in order to ensure the structural integrity of the properties.
In order to minimise disruption to residents there will be no demolition work on site on Saturday and Sunday, but teams will resume from the site on Monday.
At this stage it isn’t possible to give any specific indication in terms of exactly how long this work will take, however we will try and provide a clearer update should this become possible once the work begins.
Barriers around the properties for demolition will remain to allow for a safe working environment for those teams involved with the demolition and investigation.

Residents cars Some residents' cars have been stranded on Eden Street since the incident.
Emergency services and responding partners appreciate the inconvenience and frustration this will cause those residents; however, their safety and the safety of teams responding and accessing the affected site is a priority.
Heavy demolition equipment is currently being moved into the site, and this is affecting cars being able to be released.
Teams are working hard to try and make arrangements for cars to be moved safely. As soon as this has been agreed and it is safe to do so, further communication will be issued.
Letters to residents
A copy of this communication will be delivered to all affected properties at the earliest opportunity.
Thank you
All emergency services and responding partners would like to thank the community of Eden Street for their ongoing patience and understanding.
Teams have been working extremely hard since Tuesday evening to ensure their ongoing safety, minimise further disruption, and bring the incident to an end.
We appreciate that for some residents recovery from the incident will take many months and beyond.
Further communications will be issued as soon as more information is available.
Investigation appeal
Detectives investigating the incident are keen to hear from anyone with any information, as well as anyone who witnessed the explosion.
Officers would also like to speak to the driver of a black Ford Fiesta which was seen to drive past the property shortly before the explosion as they may have information which could help with the investigation.
