Youth Engagement

What is a Youth Engagement Team (YET) and what do they do?
A YET is made up of a mixture of Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers and Neighbourhood Investigation Officers. Their key role is to build better relationships with children and young people, provide crime prevention advice and to find out what issues matter most to them. They do this in the following ways:
- Deliver educational inputs into schools
- Conduct youth surveys
- Patrol areas where young people hang out
- Run intervention workshops with young people and their parent/carers
- Attend safeguarding events and partnership meetings
- Liaise with the Community Safety Partnership and Childrens Services to deliver appropriate interventions with children and young people suspected of committing ASB
- Deliver the mini police programme
- Identify and seek opportunities to build trust and confidence between young people and the police
- Promote engagement with children and young people through face to face and digital forms of communication
- Seek opportunities to understand the concerns and issues impacting on children and young people in the local area.
We want to ensure that young people understand the law, feel able to reach out to us if they need help and provide them with resources to support them to make informed choices for their futures.
