Your Safer Neighbourhood team (SNT) is a group of local police officers, Police Community Support Officers and Specials dedicated to serving your community.
We are proud to work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents to decide our policing priorities for the area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on preventing and reducing crime, protecting the vulnerable and providing reassurance across Derbyshire.

3. Retail crime/shoplifting
Issued 31 December 2024
1. The Safer Neighbourhood Team are working with Council Enforcement Officers to identify, educate and enforce against youths responsible for persistent ASB in the TC. High Visible targeted patrols are carried out at key times and local schools assist us in identifying youths and speaking to parents of those who are causing nuisance. We will continue to work alongside the Youth Offending Team to bring persistent offenders to justice.
2. The Safer Neighbourhood Team continue to work alongside Council Enforcement Officers, patrolling the Town Centre daily to enforce the PSPO (Public Spaces Protection Order) This allows authorised officers to request a person to leave the area if they are causing ASB and it is an offence not to comply with such a request. We will continue to work alongside our partners to robustly police the PSPO and ensure that Chesterfield Town Centre remains a pleasant place to work and visit.
3. There is a national rise in Retail Crime offences and Chesterfield Town Centre is not exempt from this. The Safer Neighbourhood Team are working alongside the Business Crime Reduction Partnership and local businesses to gather intelligence and robustly tackle Shoplifters. We use enforcement tactics and build evidence for the courts to issue Criminal Behaviour orders to the most persistent offenders. So far this year we have had over 12 Criminal Behaviour Orders successfully granted in court to persistent offenders of Shoplifting or ASB. Breach of these orders normally result in a prison sentence.
