Your Safer Neighbourhood Team
The South Derbyshire area spans 131 Square miles and covers the towns of Swadlincote and Melbourne as well as villages and hamlets such as Hilton, Repton, Aston on Trent and Overseal. About a third of the national forest lies within the district as well as many attractions such as Elvaston Country park, Foremark and Staunton Harold reservoir, Calke Abbey a Grade I listed country house and grounds near Ticknall and Melbourne Hall a Georgian style country house previously owned by the 2nd Viscount Melbourne, British Prime Minister from 1835 to 1841. Swadlincote is the principal town with a shopping area and town hall. It is historically significant for being a mining town and for pottery and brick manufacturing
The South Derbyshire Policing Unit is part of Derbyshire Constabulary, built up of a Local policing unit responsible for responding to emergency and non emergency incidents and a Safer Neighbourhood team responsible for an individual area to focus on crime prevention, community engagement, problem solving, working closely with partner agencies and residents to address community issues.

3) In relation to serious acquisitive crime, we will: • Continue high visibility and plain clothes patrols in hotspot areas. • Share crime prevention advice through social media, community events and Derbyshire Alert, raising awareness of current issues. • Promote security measures such as tool marking, steering locks and CCTV. • Work with partners including local authorities, bordering police forces and national policing teams to share intelligence and prevent offending.
4) To help educate relating to crime prevention relevant to the area we will: - • Send out fortnightly messages around Crime prevention, monitoring reports made to Police and partners to identifying any crime trends and tailor our advice to these. • Promote security measures such as tool marking, steering locks and CCTV. • Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community and encourage reporting. • Hold crime prevention events throughout the area.
2) Around Speeding we will: - • Conduct regular high visibility and plains clothes patrols in known hotspot areas taking proactive enforcement if offences located. • Continue to support existing Community Speed watch schemes and encourage residents to volunteer/ set up new schemes in areas of concern • Work with our Roads Policing Unit for joint operations where necessary • Share updates via Derbyshire Alert and social media • We will conduct speed checks and liaise with our CREST over areas of concern https://www.crestderbyshire.org/
1) To tackle ASB on the Dracan Estate we will: - • Work closely with the Housing association or Council if the ASB being caused is happening at an address of a tenant of either. • Conduct regular high visibility and plains clothes patrols in known hotspot areas taking proactive enforcement if offences located • Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community and encourage reporting • Work closely with our Youth Engagement team and ASB officer at SDDC to tackle any youth related ASB utilising an incremental approach using ASB legislation and Education. • Continue Community engagement including Joint engagement with housing officers in the area to encourage residents to attend and report issues. • Provide talks around ASB and consequences of ASB to pupils at local schools.
