Speeding
Road Safety around HGV
Nuisance Vehicles
Issued 01 October 2026
Speeding is a big concern in all parts of the local area, but certain locations have been highlighted by residents. We will continue to focus on Manchester Road at Chapel, Long Lane at Chapel and Buxton Road at Chinley. As always, we will adapt where we focus based on community feedback and incidents.
Action:
• We are conducting regular speed check throughout the area along with our Road Safety Team (CREST). Already we have issued traffic offence reports (TORs) to drivers exceeding the speed limit.
• Residents have already set up Community Speedwatch schemes which are running well and would encourage anyone who is interested in setting up a scheme in their area to email the Speedwatch Team. [email protected]
Road Safety – HGV’s: It’s been brought to our attention about HGV’s causing road safety issues travelling from Hayfield to Chinley and then having to turn around prior to the bridge of Buxton Road and oversized vehicles driving along Maynestone Road, Chinley. This is an issue that has been ongoing for several years and we hear the frustrations of our local community. We know this issue requires a multi-agency approach in order to prevent these incidents occurring and where applicable deal with any road traffic offences swiftly.
Action:
• We will consult with local council and Highway agency about improving the road signage / layout
• Utilise policing powers to educate and enforce drivers who fail to comply with road traffic signs/regulations.
Nuisance vehicles – We’re aware of vehicles locally being used in a anti social manner, popping of exhausts, excessively revving and being general nuisance in Chapel-en-le-Frith. This has been brought to our attention a number of times and we are keen to tackle this issue.
Action:
• We will utilise intelligence and local ANPR to proactively patrol and disrupt those who use vehicles to cause a nuisance on our communities.
• We will take action by using our ASB and road policing powers to issue S59’s, traffic offence reports and seizure powers to prosecute and take these drivers and vehicles off the road.
