Tackling Drugs and usage Protecting Local Businesses Speeding Motorists

Drug use continues to be a significant concern in Buxton, contributing to issues such as anti-social behaviour (ASB) and retail theft in the town centre. Our priority is addressing the root causes of drug-related harm by:
• Collaborating with local rehabilitation services and partner agencies to provide support and recovery pathways for individuals struggling with addiction.
• Focusing on long-term solutions to reduce the impact of drugs on our community, rather than solely punitive measures. Retail theft is not a victimless crime - it directly affects the safety, livelihood, and wellbeing of local shop staff and business owners. To combat this, Buxton SNT is:
• Proactively targeting known offenders to disrupt criminal activity and arrest outstanding suspects.
• Conducting regular patrols in hotspot areas and holding street meets to engage with retailers, understand their concerns, and provide visible deterrence. Encouraging businesses to report all incidents: Call 101 for non-emergencies or 999 if a crime is in progress. Save CCTV footage and use the Retail Theft Pack to document incidents, helping us build a stronger case against offenders. Speeding cars continue to cause a nuisance for residents. Cars are being driven at excessive and dangerous speeds, causing alarm and annoyance to the public. As well as being intimidating, these actions put pedestrians, cyclists and other road users at risk of serious accident.
