Burglaries Shop Theft and security Speeding Motorists

    Issued 01 October 2026

    Action taken:

Burglaries – As the evenings become darker, we are proactively addressing the seasonal increase in burglary offences. The Safer Neighbourhood Team will be carrying out targeted patrols informed by intelligence and supported by ANPR technology to identify and disrupt offenders. We will also be holding property marking events to help residents protect their belongings, using social media to raise awareness of current crime trends, and providing practical crime prevention advice to help reduce the risk of burglary within our communities.
Shop theft & security – We are committed to reducing shop theft and supporting local businesses through a combination of high-visibility patrols and working with retailers, especially over the Christmas period when certain areas become very busy with visitors. We will conduct targeted patrols in retail areas, engage with store staff and make use of CCTV, ANPR, and other available evidence to identify and prosecute those responsible. We will also encourage businesses to report all incidents and share crime prevention advice.
Speeding - Tackling speeding remains a priority for the Safer Neighbourhood Team due to the risks it poses to road users and local communities. We are going to focus on speeding through the middle of the villages (Castleton, Hope & Bamford ) where it causes the most annoyances to local residents. We will use a combination of enforcement and education of motorists, this includes targeted speed enforcement operations ( Safedrives ) in the identified hotspot locations We will also work alongside the Community Speed Watch groups in Bamford and Castleton. Through social media, community meetings, and local campaigns, we continue to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding and encourage drivers to take responsibility for their actions.
